P-2 Visa

The P-2 Visa is a non-immigrant visa for artists and entertainers entering the United States as part of a reciprocal exchange program between a U.S. organization and an organization in another country. This visa allows individual performers or groups to engage in cultural exchange performances, tours, and collaborations in the U.S.

The P-2 visa is initially granted for the length of the event, tour, or performance (up to 1 year) and can be extended in 1-year increments if necessary.

Why Apply for a P-2 Visa?

Work Legally in the U.S.

Family Can Accompany

Spouses and children (under 21) can travel under P-4 status (though they cannot work).

No limit on the number of P-2 visas issued.

How to Apply for P-2 Visa

  • Sponsor or Employer Files Form I-129: A U.S.-based employer, agent, or organization files Form I-129 with supporting evidence of the exchange agreement. Typically takes 2-6 months; Premium Processing (15 days) is available.
  • Provide Supporting Evidence: Documents proving eligibility including formal reciprocal exchange agreement between U.S. and foreign organizations, contracts or invitations from U.S. venues or sponsors, proof of professional standing (media coverage, awards, prior performances), and affidavits from industry experts or organizations.
  • Wait for USCIS Approval: If approved, USCIS issues a Form I-797 (Approval Notice).
  • Apply for a Visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate: Complete Form DS-160 and schedule a visa interview. Bring valid passport, Form I-797 approval notice, exchange program agreement, and performance contracts or event details.
  • Enter the U.S. & Perform: If approved, the applicant receives a P-2 visa stamp and can enter the U.S. to perform, collaborate, and engage in the exchange program.
